As a result, a cloud migration and various projects were undertaken to develop data ingestion, processing, and storage systems in the cloud.

Starting Point: Data serves as the backbone of Horizm’s business model. The company required a platform restructure to improve the reliability and scalability of its infrastructure. Technologies utilized by Horizm include PHP (Laravel) and MySQL. 

Solution Developed 

  • Migration to AWS: Transition from the Digital Ocean platform to AWS to achieve enhanced reliability and scalability. The following services were utilized: 
  • ALB, EC2, Aurora, SQS, ElastiCache, CloudFront, EFS, and S3. 
  • Database Migration: All databases were migrated through Amazon RDS, transitioning to Aurora MySQL 8 to leverage horizontal autoscaling. 
  • Microservices Architecture: Development of a microservices-based model. 
  • Horizontal Scalability: Implemented horizontal scalability for both the application and data layers. 
  • Data Systems: Developed data ingestion, processing, and storage systems, along with a pipeline for deploying new application versions. 

Project Outcomes & Success Metrics 

The restructuring resulted in a flexible platform capable of handling variable, fast, and highly available workloads. Key outcomes include a reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and improved service speed for end users. The migration to AWS provided the increased reliability and scalability necessary for the business.
